Installed AnyDVD 6.0.9.9 and rebooted without the key returning. Note: Removed the key, restarted AnyDVD without the key returning. Nonetheless, people need to worry about more nefarious companies and their software. But, to prove a point I deleted the key and it didn't reappear when I restarted AnyDVD so I'm assuming they've changed how it works.
Though I tend to be on the paranoid side, myself, this never bothered me. For those truly paranoid people it's easy enough to remove with Sysinternals RegDelNull. The real argument is whether it's an actual security threat or not. SlySoft, itself, has stated they added the so arguing that point is moot. Its sole purpose was in deal with trial usage of AnyDVD. I'm unsure if CloneCD ever employed it or whether it was only an AnyDVD issue. Not really an update for me since I'm not running Vista but CloneCD 5.3.0.0 is still working essentially flawlessly, as usual, on my XP Pro SP2 system.
